Nearly everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will have some form of surgery. This webinar looks at the factors that might influence decision making and practical tips for preparation and recovery.

Meet the panel

Amy McAuley. Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 48. She underwent a double mastectomy and talks about navigating choices and surgery in 2023. 

Barbara Sturmfels.  Barbara was diagnosed with triple postive (ER+/PR+/HER2+) breast cancer in 2023 at the age of 68. She talks about having breast conserving surgery. 

Dr Michael Puttick. Dr Puttick is an oncoplastic breast surgeon at Auckland City Hospital. He covers the different types of surgery and what might be involved.

Catriona Farac. Catriona is a surgical breast nurse specialist. She talks through the practical implications of surgery and who to talk to in your medical team when you have questions about your treatment. 

Breast surgery is a mainstay of treatment for early breast cancer. This webinar covers the choices, considerations and practical tips for breast cancer surgery. It covers breast conserving surgery (lumpectomy) and mastectomy. It also covers sentinal node biopsies and axillary node dissection (removal). 

This webinar looks at factors to consider when making these choices, who to ask when you have questions and the order of tests, surgery and treatment. The webinar also highlights who specifically will be in your medical team as you navigate breast cancer surgery.
