Why an election manifesto?
An election manifesto sets out the changes an organisation wants the next government to prioritise. It brings evidence, patient experience and practical policy solutions together, giving political parties a clear basis for action and enabling the public to hold the next government accountable for progress.
As an independent charity, Breast Cancer Foundation NZ has developed this manifesto to ensure breast cancer remains firmly on the political agenda. It identifies three achievable priorities where government action could save lives: finding more cancers early, removing delays in diagnosis and funding effective medicines.
Our goal is clear: fewer New Zealanders dying from breast cancer and better outcomes for everyone affected by it. We are asking all political parties to commit to the action and investment needed so people with breast cancer can live, and live well.
Election Manifesto 2026
This manifesto outlines three key policy asks for the next government:
- Supplementary imaging for high-risk women and mandatory reporting of breast density.
- Investment into digital pathology.
- Fund the medicines New Zealanders with breast cancer need.
