Our BCFNZ nurses are here to provide you with information, encouragement and a boost to confidence when you need it. They also work closely with specialist health professionals including Pinc and Steel physios across New Zealand, so can advise you about specialist support in your local community. Cancer Society Accommodation - Margaret Stewart House

Accommodation for people affected by cancer who live outside the Wellington Area. Margaret Stewart House provides comfortable, friendly and convenient accommodation.

The 18 units within the house provide a home away from home. All rooms have ensuites and tea and coffee making facilities. All clients must be mobile and able to be independent. We have supervisors and volunteers working to provide a comfortable and safe stay.

Mindfulness Training - Thursdays 1-2 pm
A variety of mindfulness methods will be shared, using the breath, our posture, movement as well as self care and compassion themes.

CanConnect Cancer Support Group

An engaging and supportive group who meet to learn and connect. Each month has a different well-being topic (with guest speakers). Following that, we connect over gentle movement and a cup of tea. If movement is hard for you, we have other great (non-walking) alternatives too.

CanSurvive Dragon Boat Club

We provide dragon boat training, fitness and camaraderie for women in the Wellington region who have had a diagnosis of breast cancer, as well as friends and supporters.

We have two teams – CanSurvive for breast cancer survivors and Can2 open to all women. We train on Wellington harbour to attend dragonboat regattas in New Zealand and internationally. Each year we race at the Wellington Festival, a regional event and the NZDBA dragon boat National Championships. During winter we have some paddling and fitness activities. Our members range in age from 20s to 70s and come from a wide range of backgrounds. We welcome all women to join us in this exhilarating sport.

CanTeen Aotearoa

Around 4,200 rangatahi across Aotearoa are impacted by cancer each year, whether it's their own diagnosis or that of an immediate family member. CanTeen's mission is to make sure they don't have to face cancer alone. CanTeen provides a wide range of free support services for rangatahi, including individual therapeutic support with specially trained Psychosocial Support Workers, peer support through events and programmes run by Youth Workers, and 24/7 online support through CanTeen Connect.

Casting For Recovery North Island

Casting For Recovery North Island NZ offers 100 percent free weekends to breast cancer sufferers at any age and stage of their journey. We also accept applications from men.

The retreat provides an opportunity for people whose lives have been affected by breast cancer, to gather in a beautiful, natural setting and learn the basics of the sport of catch and release fly fishing.

Clinical Genetics Auckland - Fertility Associates

Clinical Genetics Auckland (CGA) was started in 2015 by senior genetic counsellors Jenny Eaton and Kim Gamet.

The genetic counselling role is to inform, educate and support individuals and families on the relevance, appropriateness, availability and potential outcomes of genetic testing and known genetic disorders. Genetic counsellors can provide genetic advice on genetic testing and cancer risk assessment.

Telehealth appointments via Zoom and telephone are available.

CNSST Foundation, formerly known as Chinese New Settlers Services Trust

CNSST provide culturally appropriate wrap-around services to ethnic communities including social services (social work and counselling, children and youth programmes, parenting programmes, employment and enterprise and newcomers' settlement support), education (tertiary education, vocational training e.g. MYOB&XERO, Food Safety Certification, Chinese Cultural Competency Programme) and social housing.

Cold caps

Some chemotherapies cause temporary hair loss. Your oncologist will let you know if you're likely to benefit from scalp cooling (reduce hair loss). While automated scalp cooling systems prevent hair loss related to chemotherapy, they're not available in all parts of New Zealand. A cold cap is an alternative which will minimise hair loss caused from some chemotherapies that are associated with mild or moderate hair loss, such as weekly taxanes.

The two types of cold caps that New Zealand patients buy are Icekap and Penguin Cold Caps. They need to be purchased online so you'll need at least a week for delivery. It's important to do your research because scalp cooling can be fiddly and you need to know you can manage this and that it's right for you, before you purchase a cap.

Cold Caps - Artic Heat

Chemokit is designed for convenience. It's a new addition to the range of cold caps available. Please check with your oncologist if this is okay to use and feel free talk to the BCFNZ nurses if you want to discuss if this right for you and the treatment you're having.

Counselling & Arts Therapy
Arts therapy connects you with your deeper emotions, as humans we are more likely to work in an unedited and unfiltered way when working creatively. This means that we may be able to move to the heart of the matter quicker than talking alone.

During your sessions, you may be invited to use collage, drawing, painting, sculpture, creative writing, clay work, movement, and more, to connect with and express your inner world.

If you think of yourself as not a creative person, that is ok. Using art in therapy is focussed on the process of creating and meaning making, not about the end product. It can be effective for everyone, young and old.

Some sessions may not use art making. We may focus on talking, and that is ok too.
